A subset of our traditional Judo syllabus, Combat Judo is an ideal adjunct for those in the striking arts to add throws to their repertoire. The throws in the syllabus are approached from a self-defence perspective and the syllabus includes atemi and kyusho techniques as distractions and enhancements to the nage-waza.
In addition to throwing, the combat judo syllabus covers receiving attacks (uke waza) and a range of strikes and kicks, locks and strangles.
Groundholds and locks are performed bearing in mind that the normal Judo rules won't apply, so self protection is paramount, including against 'street' tactics like gouges, butts and biting
Throws are performed from a range of attacks, including punches, grabs and other close-quarter situations, with defences sometimes brutal and decisive.
Unique kyusho (pressure-point) versions of throws add an edge to the technique, using pain as a distraction to get your opponent to the floor and make a successful escape.
